15x more people (in percenatge terms) use bike sharing in China than in Germany or France.
Katie Milua was right, already in 2005. There are definitely 9 million bicycles in Beijing. There are now already 2.4 million shared bikes alone. Used by about 11 million users. The bicycle industry in China has totally been disrupted in less then 5 years. Bike sharing in China shows how fast an entire industry is changing. 500 million bike buyers are more or less replaced by 60 bike-sharing companies. One should think more about the effects of oligopolies in general than about the extremely positive effect when thousands of Chinese bikes suddenly appear in the streets of German cities. The platform business will lead to oligopolies everywhere. Here we have to start thinking now. More bikes on the streets are just great.
